After Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the Oscars just days after getting the gig, the powers that be at the Academy will now be scratching their heads in regards to who they could get to replace the comedian.
Hart gave up the prestigious role for 2019 after a row broke out over a number of homophobic tweets he posted a decade ago, saying that he didnt want to be a distraction on awards night and apologising to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.
So who do the Academy turn to now? A list of candidates to host the 2019 Oscars has been drawn up already, but theres one person in particular who has publicly put their name forward today (7 December) for hosting duties.
Well, sort of, anyway (brace yourself for some NSFW language).

Sweary pitch aside, Gervais does have experience in this particular field: after all, hes been given the hosting reins of the Golden Globes four times now, most recently in 2016.

The comedian and star of The Offices stint in charge of those ceremonies became pretty infamous for his no-holds-barred approach to roasting celebrities and the Hollywood establishment.
Although saying that, the Oscars often creates enough controversy on its own without Gervais operating at the peak of his offensive powers – so perhaps the two would cancel each other out if he was actually given the hosting job?
Ellen Degeneres is currently the bookies favourite – and frankly the safest option – to be the next host of the Oscars, but were sure Ricky wont go down without a fight if he really does want the big job…
