Festivals have been called out in recent years for the lack of female names on their bills.

Now, Primavera Spund are attempting to rectify this – and its led to one heck of a line-up.

The line-up for the Barcelona festival has been unveiled, and some of the biggest names of music are on the bill.

Cardi B, Janelle Monae, Robyn, Carly Rae Jepsen, Solange, Erykah Badu and FKA Twigs are among the huge female stars who will be heading up Primavera when it hits Barcelona from 30 May – 1 June 2019.

Aiming to have 50/50 gender equality across the 226 names that are on the bill, Primaveras eclectic line-up has artists across rock, pop, hip-hop, jazz and electronic.

The organisers said: If half of our audience is female, why shouldnt half of our line up be so too? Why cant there be equality in schedules, styles and stages? It has not been easy to fight against the inertia that has been passed down for so many years, but after all, if the future is female, whats the point in waiting?

We are starting here, accelerating change to build a line up that shouldnt be the exception, which we want to make the norm. But lets not forget that this is only a line up and only a festival, what matters is everything else.

Future, Interpol, Nas, Mac DeMarco, Christine And The Queens, Liz Phair, Suede, James Blake, Jarvis Cocker, Charli XCX and Primal Scream are among the other names on the bill.

Tickets for Primavera Sound are available now, with full festival tickets staying at €180 (£160) until 7 January, which will increase to €195 (£173) the following day.

Day tickets are currently available for €80 (£71), which will increase to €90 (£81) on 8 January.
