Andy Serkis is the godfather of motion-capture acting with iconic roles in some of Hollywoods biggest blockbusters like Planet of the Apes, King Kong and Lord of the Rings.

But, to everyones dismay, the British actor has surprisingly failed to receive a single Oscar nomination in his entire career.

Thats even worse than Leonardo DiCaprios pre-The Revenant track record.

However, Andy, 54, could finally break his Academy Award curse with his second directorial feature, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, an adaptation of Disneys Jungle Book – only much darker and available on Netflix.

While he would be thrilled to finally get his hands on that coveted golden statue, Andy isnt putting all his hopes into that elusive Oscar dream.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the Mowgli premiere in London, Andy said: We dont make films to win awards, its very lovely if it comes along.

But for me the reward is fulfilling a vision and being in a privileged position to make a film like this where youre going to be sharing it with an audience and hopefully in some small way, changing the perception of humanity.

He added: Thats all Im interested in finding. Its lovely when you get an accolade but it really isnt the ambition of what you set out to do so, if it comes along then great but if not then it doesnt bother me.

Andys work with motion capture is the stuff of legend with the actor able to deliver the most emotionally-charged scenes with often just his voice.

Come on, we all cried during Caesars last scene.

Back in 2012, actor James Franco even wrote an op-ed for Deadline declaring Andy the undisputed master of motion-capture and calling for the Oscars to recognise his work.

Just this week alone, the conversation about Andys snub has continued on Twitter with one fan stating: Andy Serkis deserves an Oscar. He really does. From Ceasar to Gollum to Snoke to Klawe. Man hasnt put in a poor performance ever. And his characters are incredibly memorable [sic].

Another weighed in: Just give Andy Serkis a freaking Oscar already! Caesars grieving over his family & feeling guilty about Koba is better acting than Ive seen in most movies, let alone a summer blockbuster.

One other particularly frustrated fan added: The day Andy Serkis finally wins an Oscar for (whatever), I will run a fucking victory lap around my block.

Same.

Mowgli, which delves deeper into the story of the boy cub, also stars Andys youngest son Louis Ashbourne Serkis, who plays Bhoot.

Louis, 14, reveals he loved working with his famous father who both directed and starred in the project.

The teen said: It was great, it was a different than experience working around actors you dont know.

In a way, I suppose its better working with someone you do know as, during a technical scene when you have to be sad, I could really connect with him because I know who he is.

Louis and Andy had a great rapport on-set but they perhaps got on a little too well: I suppose the drawback is we made each other laugh and when youre trying to do a serious scene, thats quite crucial because you need to be concentrating. But overall its great, Louis revealed.

Oh, and FYI, Louis still got to call him dad on-set. Cute!

Mowgli, which also stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, arrives on Netflix on 7 December.
