The freedom of the open road, the raw beauty of Western Australias oceans and the rich colours of the landscape are at the heart of Margaret River artist Tamika Meeks Hogans first solo exhibition. Since childhood Meeks has been driven by art and the explorations of the child have matured into her latest work which is a blend of illusive goddess-like portraits mixed with dreamy, colourful surf and seascapes. “Graphite portraiture was always my first true love as an artist and something I will always come home to, but my passion for colour has led me into an exotic affair with oil paints,” Meeks said. “They allow me to explore colour to extraordinary depths, capture playful moods of light and essentially render the world around me as I see it in all its wonder and beauty.” Meeks said her current body of work is the marriage of these loves. “Surfing, the ocean, traveling and camping in the middle of nowhere, sunsets, moonrises and the rugged Western Australian coastline are my muse,” Meeks said. “I have been lucky enough to have been granted an adventurous spirit and the opportunity to grow up in the South West, this and the magic of the open road and the raw and untamed beauty of the Western Australian coastline continues to inspire me.” Meeks exhibition will be showcased at The Common in Gnarabup on Friday December 14. Doors open at 6pm and will feature a blend of illusive portraits captured in graphite, as well as a collection of colourful surf and seascape oil paintings and a limited number of prints of selected originals available on the night.
