Jake Wood will be temporarily bowing out of EastEnders Max Branning, and while that news has been hard to take, hes just offered us a light at the end of the tunnel.

Actor Jake has revealed exactly how long well have a Max-shaped hole in the soap, and though its still a while, its not as long as it could be.

Speaking on Loose Women, Jake was asked what awful things will befall Albert Square this Christmas.

Theres no awful things in EastEnders. Its a really good Christmas, theres a lot happening, he teased. As we saw last year Max was featured very heavily, obviously its not focused on Max Branning so much this year which is good for me.

He added that now seems the right time to take a break.

Ive been there 12 years so my approach was always – two years ago I had a year off, he said. I love being there, I love the job but it is very demanding. Its long hours and Ive got a family, two kids at home, and a beautiful wife I probably dont see enough of.

Max has recently been battling for custody of baby Abi, with him and wife Rainie going up against Cora in a bid to win the case.

Jake also recently revealed to metro.co.uk that with boss Kate Oats now at the helm, there are big things to come for Max.

Its always exciting when a new boss takes over – its a new set of ideas isnt it? he told us. And Kates reputation speaks for itself, she did some amazing stuff over at Coronation Street so it will be good that she can bring some of that over here and create some more good drama. Were all very positive and looking forward to what the future holds, I think there are some exciting times ahead for the show.
