Get ready for the most marvellous superhero of them all, because Brie Larson did not come to play.

The new Captain Marvel trailer dropped on Monday night, providing a greater insight into how Carol Danvers becomes one of the universes most powerful heroes.

The action-packed 2-minute montage gives us just enough of a taste of Avengers 4 – which will hopefully drop a trailer on Wednesday – in which Room star Brie will officially join the MCU for the first time.

Before that, Brie begins to tell a little of the solo backstory to fighter pilot Danvers, who becomes part-human, part-Kree, meaning she has all of the powers of a god.

Captain Marvel is therefore supposed to be the most powerful hero the MCU has ever seen, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

And we see it from the start of the Captain Marvel trailer, when the superhero fights an elderly lady in front of horrified subway passengers.

Its not until Fury tells us that Skrulls are the bad guys that we understand why she smashes the old ladys face into a pole.

Your life began the day it nearly ended, Carol is told. We found you with no memory – we made you one of us. So you could live longer, stronger, superior. You were reborn.

And so Carol became a noble warrior hero but shes plagued by memories in her past that could be the key to all of this.

Though its not an origin story, Captain Marvel is known to precede Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor.

It will also be released several months before Avengers 4, in March 2019.

Marvel fans will know that at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, the MCU calls upon the help of Captain Marvel to fight Thanos.

And at the end of the new Captain Marvel trailer, she refuses to fight the war, but vows to end it.
