Avengers fans were left shook when Thanos clicked his fingers at the end of Infinity War, destroying half the universe with one simple snap.

However, while much of the discussion in the run up to Avengers 4 has been about who survived said snap and who perished, no one has really mentioned Quills part to play in the whole thing.

Just as the good guys are about to get the Infinity Gauntlet taken off him, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, aka Chris Pratt, completely lost it.

L to R: Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland), Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Drax (Dave Bautista), Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff)

It turns out Thanos snap was kind of Quills fault…(Picture: Marvel Studios)

Desperate to get some kind of revenge for Gamoras death, he started beating Thanos up, incidentally waking him up from the coma he was in.

Which wasnt quite the best timing…

There has been a lot of debate over the whole thing, with some putting the blame for what happened after solely on his shoulders.

And, in a new Q&A, director Joe Russo has now admitted that had Star-Lord kept his cool, the Thanos snap probably wouldnt have happened..

That was the turning point of that scene, he told Collider. Again, these are flawed characters that make emotional choices, human choices. Had Quill not done that, the movie might have ended right there.

The Avengers 4 trailer is dropping this week (Picture: Marvel)

Joe has previously defended Quills emotional response to the situation – despite the fact he is basically partly responsible for the destruction of the universe…

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, he explained that the character has been through a lot of crap in his life, and that needs to be taken into account.

I mean, look, hes a character whos gone through a lot of pain. Hes lost a lot of people in his life. He was kidnapped by pirates when he was 10 years old, raised by pirates, lost his mother, had to kill his father, and in the movie, the love of his life is taken from him, he explained.

So if you cant understand someone making a human choice like that, I dont know if you understand humanity very well. But he is a flawed character, and thats whats so compelling about him.
