Mayor dusts off dancing shoes for the hokey pokey

Childrens Week is a national celebration of childrens rights, talents and citizenship and always celebrated around Universal Children's Day which is held on the fourth Wednesday of October in Australia. A diverse range of events and activities are organised at National, State and Local levels. These focus the attention of the wider community on children, their needs and achievements. Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities. National Childrens Week saw the Mayor, Councillors and senior management of the Bogan Shire Council join hands to celebrate the future of our community. The children of the Bogan Shire Early Learning Centre invited the Councillors for lunch to acknowledge National Childrens Week. The Councillors were surprised and delighted with the pre-lunch activities, getting their groove on with the ELC kids to the Hokey Pokey and Baby Shark. The children led the way with the actions and everybody joined in. The theme for this years National Childrens Week is "Childrens Views and Opinions are Respected". Over lunch the councillors were seated with the children, taking the opportunity to listen to the voices of the youngest members of our community. The mission of the Children's Week Council of Australia is to encourage, support, guide co-ordinate and monitor the widest possible participation of all States and Territories in Children's Week, ensuring that programs and activities are open to all children regardless of race, colour, sex, ability, religion, nationality or social origin. The council has boldly supported the children of the Nyngan community through building the Early Learning Centre and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to the service for our young people. Saturday, December 1 Lip sync battle at Nyngan golf club. Want to be a singer but cant sing? Want to be your idol but youre idol? Join the battle. All solo and group acts welcome. Costumes and dance routines encouraged. Childrens sections under 18 will start at 7pm. Adults, 18 years and over. Saturday, December 8 Christmas carnival and markets from 6pm. Live entertainment, chocolate wheel, BBQ, free childrens fun including face painting, jumping castle and merry go ground. Nymagee Street. Funds raised will e going to Little Wings and Can Assist.
