Emily Blunt reveals Dick Van Dyke was exhausted filming Mary Poppins sequel, but would still sing to her
Emily Blunt gave us a proper look at just how perfect she is as Mary Poppins as the actress graced the cover of Harpers Bazaar UK this week.
And graced is an absolute understatement.
The actress, 35, is putting up her umbrella for the sequel to the 1964 original which starred Julie Andrews in the titular role and in the amazing shoot within the glossy pages, she IS Mary Poppins…if Mary Poppins was a Hollywood actress doing a fashion shoot we guess.
Photos of the actress revealed just how much she needs to vibe MP on the reg though and if you dont believe us just feast your eyes here – even the flippin birds want to be her mate.
But the real dream came as she waxed lyrical on Dick Van Dyke, who has returned as Mr Dawes Jnr, having starred in two roles in the classic over 50 years ago. This wasnt lost on Emily who was blessed to work with her monumental co-star.

Yes, hes 92 years old, but the eyes, and the smile, are seared into your memory, she said. It was terribly moving having him there. Obviously hed be exhausted by the end of the day, but between takes, hed put his hand on my arm and sing, “Its a jolly holiday with Mary”.
The star opened up on how she prepared for the role of nanny du jour, even though she decided not to watch the OG to study up.
Didnt want to psyche herself out, perhaps?
Even though Id seen the film as a child, I decided not to watch it when prepping, she told the magazine. She was so clear to me from reading that I decided not to be intimidated by the iconic Julie Andrews in the iconic role, and just approached it as I would any other part.
Were intimidated by Dame Julie, so we can empathise.
Her iconic opening scene, which riffed on the same entrance of the original with Julie, saw Emily suspended in the air, which is no small task, but the redo had the crew in bits as they felt emotional having the character back in their lives.

I was about 50 feet in the air, hanging from a crane, having to look effortless… Emily said. But then one of the camera guys came up to me and said, “It was really emotional, seein er come back.”
Were not crying, you are.
The January issue of Harpers Bazaar UK is on sale from 4 December.
