This week in EastEnders has seen Kat Moon learn that her dad, Charlie Slater, may well have known his brother Harry was abusing her when she was a child.

In an iconic EastEnders storyline from the early noughties, Kat told sister Zoe Slater that she is actually her mother after Harry raped her when she was a child. Zoe then told Charlie, who she believed was her dad, and he punched Harry and demanded he flee Walford.

However, this week Kat met an old friend of Charlies who appeared to suggest her dad knew what was going on.

The former friend told Kat how Harry had once told him and Charlie that he had ways of shutting Kat up. And he insisted it was quite clear what Harry was saying.

So did Charlie know all along? Or has this friend got the wrong end of the stick?

He was only on screen for five months, with his final scenes airing in October that year.

Harry was the younger brother of Charlie (Derek Martin).

When he arrived in Albert Square, the Slater family were already there, with people believing Zoe was Kats younger sister and Charlie was their dad.

However, when Zoe ended up announcing her plans to move to Spain to live with her uncle, Kat forbade her. The pair had a huge argument, resulting in Kat telling Zoe that she is her mother, not her sister. Kat explained how Harry groomed her as a child and raped her when she was 13-years-old. Charlie then raised Zoe as his own, believing Kat had got pregnant after sleeping with a boy from her school.

Shocked at Kats news, Zoe then told Charlie what she had discovered, leading Charlie to attack his brother and demand he flee Walford.

At the time, Harry told Charlie how he is ashamed of what he did to Kat but that Charlies late wife Viv knew about it and made him leave. Charlie is shocked his late wife may have known all along. When Harry goes to shake his older brothers hand to say goodbye, Charlie spat in his face and called him a monster. Harry then left.

The following year, news reached Walford that Harry had died following a heart attack in Spain. Zoe was sent a cheque for £18,000 following Harrys death but she returned it when she saw how upset Kat was at the idea of her daughter accepting anything from the man who raped her.

Fast forward 13 years and Mo is sent a cheque for £19,500 for Kat but Kat again refuses to accept it. However, when she is visited by a compensation lawyer, she realises she was not the only young girl Harry attacked – there were other victims.

Later that year, Kat decides to visit the convent where she remembers giving birth to Zoe. It then becomes clear that she was not just pregnant with a baby girl – she was pregnant with twins.

However, the second child – a son who Kat later discovered is now called Dermott Dolan (Oisin Stack) – was given up for adoption by Kats mother as they could only cope with one child.

This relationship was explored in the Kat and Alfie Moon EastEnders spin-off Redwater.

Kat and Alfie are now back in Albert Square and she is having to deal with the consequences of running into one of her fathers former friends.
