Tom Hardys Venom has somehow raked in more money than Wonder Woman
Despite being called Catwoman level bad by critics, it appears Tom Hardy has won over Marvel fans with his role in Venom.
In fact, fans seem to love the movie so much that it has made over a whopping $800 million (£623 million) worldwide – out-grossing the DC hit Wonder Woman.
We are also very confused by this.
The villain first debuted on screen in Spider-Man 3, and even though he is a much lesser known character in the Marvel universe, the solo film managed to attract all of the hype.
Probably because Tom Hardy was starring, no?
Having a record breaking opening in October, Venom performed well over seas and has since grossed $822 million (£640 million), with around $611 million (£476 million) coming from outside of America.
This means that not only has it surpassed Wonder Woman (which took in $821 million – £640 million – worldwide) but also smashed the gross target set by 2017s Justice League.

At the time the film hit the big screens, critics were quick to pull it apart and came to a general consensus that the film should have been released back in the 2000s. Or not at all.
One wrote: Sorry to say that #Venom is pretty much a complete failure – a tonal mess that feels 15 years old, ignoring the storytelling strides that the superhero genre has made in recent years.
A few fun Venom-centric moments aside, it has nearly nothing to offer. Dont get your hopes up.
Another added: Im *fascinated* with VENOM. The cast seems to all know theyre in a darker superhero movie, except Tom Hardy who is basically remaking Jim Carreys Liar Liar.
I kinda loved watching this movie, in a Rocky Horror type of way. At one point Tom Hardy and Venom make out.
While someone else threw all the shade by joking: #Venom is Catwoman level bad, with Tom Hardys worst performance since This Means War. DONT SEE THE MOVIE!
Speaking before the movie was released, Tom revealed just how much he would love to be involved in the franchise.
He said: We went into this hoping to build it, and I went into it hoping to do something for the next several years and I can invest myself in.

But we have to launch it and see how people feel about it, and if they dont like it, well see, but I dont think they will. I have a really good feeling about it.
He added: I know the whole team has poured a lot of love into it, and Ive really enjoyed it. Ive left a lot of stuff out there and I did a lot of improvisation in it that will never make it to the movie.
Looks like me might have a Venom 2 on our hands…
