Race-by-race guide and tips for Port Macquarie on Tuesday

RACE 1: 1.15PM – JAMIE WILIAMS MAIDEN PLATE (1506m)

Competitive maiden to start the day, 6. Totten was good two starts back at the track where the gelding was caught in traffic in the straight and got out late to just miss, stepped up to 1700m last start and didnt see it out, back to in distance here suits and with a small weight drop should be right on the pace throughout.
Dangers: Taree-trained 2. Dangerous Dan showed big improvement last start at the track where he was stuck three and four deep throughout and was still hitting the line well, should enjoy a nice run here from barrier 6 and stays at the 1500m for the third start in a row which is ideal.
How to play it: Totten to win.

RACE 3: 2.25PM – PANTHERS XMAS TREES OF HOPE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1206m)

Another competitive maiden. Taree-trained 1. Casino Mondial has improved at both runs in his first racing preparation, last start at the track he was held up for a run at the top of the straight and was forced to cover extra ground before straightening up and recording some impressive late sectionals to just miss, the step up to 1200m is ideal and from barrier 7 should be able to cross and find a nice position.
Dangers: Expect the Brett Bellamy-trained 3. Beat That to improve sharply here second up; finished two lengths back from Casino Mondial at his first career start, with general improvement from that run and a more positive ride will be thereabouts. Fastnet Rock gelding 5. Werewolf debuts here off two solid trials and is one to watch.
How to play it: Casino Mondial to win.

RACE 4: 3.05PM – PANTHERS PORT MACQUARIE BM66 HANDICAP – HEAT OF THE RISING STAR (1206m)

Allan Kehoe-trained 2.Penfold looks well placed here dropping back from open grade back to a BM66, was heavily backed last start at Port Macquarie where the race wasnt run to suit getting too far back of a slow early pace, should be able to settle right up on the pace here with a lack of early speed in the race.
Dangers: 3. Traumatised comes into this off the back of a very unlucky run at Port Macquarie where the gelding was caught up in traffic only getting out late to hit the line hard, will get back here again and saved for one run late.
How to play it: Penfold to win.

RACE 5: 3.40PM – THE PANTHER OPEN HANDICAP (1506m)

Tamworth-trained 3. Try N Run A Muck comes here off the back of a good run in the Kempsey Cup where he was solid to the line on a track that suited runners that came wide in the straight, the in-form Ben Looker will be able to go straight to the front and be hard to run down.
Dangers: Locally trained 6.ODriscoll was good last start at the track stepping up in distance and stays at the 1500m here, gets a lovely run just off the speed. 7. Achi Baba was a length off ODriscoll last start and gets a nice weight turnaround on that galloper.
How to play it: Try N Run A Muck to win.

RACE 6: 4.15PM – KOVE – CAFE/BAR/KITCHEN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (2012m)

Paul Perry-trained 1.Winners Lane stepped up to the 1900m for the first time last start and was strong when the pressure was put into the race from the 600m and fought on well, from barrier 1 will be able to jump straight to the front and Ben Looker will be able to control the race.
Dangers: The way 4. Ive Got This hit the line last start at Kempsey the step up in distance here doesnt look an issue, got a long way back over 1450m and powered home recording some of the quickest late sectionals at the entire meeting, 11. Vision and Prayer one at odds that could figure in the finish back in distance.
How to play it: Winners Lane to win.

RACE 7: 4.50PM -THE TAPP – BEER/WINE/EATS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1006m)

Open sprint race with many chances but settled on 8. Manning Treasure here, has been ultra consistent this preparation and from the nice barrier should be able to take up the lead and run a very strong 1000m.
Dangers: 1. Akamin has been running well this preparation and never far away, if he can find a nice position from the tricky barrier will be in the finish.
How to play it: Manning Treasure to win.

RACE 8 – 5.30PM – THE BACKYARD – EAT/STAY/PLAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP

Very open class one sprint to finish the day, 5. Bearly Thinking won well leading all the way at Grafton last start and should be prominent throughout.
Dangers: 6. Lingalonga Lass looks to peak here third up from a spell back to Class 1 grade, gets a nice run midfield.
How to play it: Bearly Thinking to win.
