Theres a Harry Potter throwback you might not have noticed in Fantastic Beasts 2
While the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies are a world apart in many ways, there are also plenty of similarities.
The Crimes of Grindelwald has some of the HP franchises lead characters, such as Dumbledore and Nagini, and there a a handful of Easter eggs – like references to Newt in Harry Potter, the erumpent horn and even the Nifflers.
Those fluent in all things Harry Potter might pride themselves on spotting these hidden links a mile off, but someones discovered a new one that probably slipped past even the most hardcore stans.
In a scene set early in the new Fantastic Beasts film, Newt Scamander visits the Ministry of Magic to get his travel ban lifted. It looks pretty similar to the Ministry in the Harry Potter movies, which were set 70-or-so years on from FB, but theres one major difference: owls.

In Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Harry accompanies Arthur Weasley to the Ministry, where he notices lots of enchanted purple flying envelopes.
Just interdepartmental memos, Arthur explained when Harry queried them.
We used to use owls, but the mess was unbelievable… droppings all over the desks…
In Crimes Of Grindelwald one owl can be seen making a mess on a window, which a house elf then clears up (Hermione would be outraged).
Very clever!

Of course, the main link from the film is Dumbledores love for Grindelwald.
The relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore is key to making Dumbledore, Dumbledore, writer JK Rowling explained.
The teenager received a wound from which Dumbledore never recovered.
Ezra Miller, who plays Credence in the Fantastic Beasts films, told the Hollywood Reporter: For me, personally, I find Dumbledores queerness extremely explicit in this film. I mean, all around.
He sees Grindelwald, his young lover whos the love of his life; he sees him in the Mirror of Erised. What does the Mirror of Erised show you? Nothing more than the most desperate desire of your heart.
If thats not explicitly gay, I dont know what is.
