Hollyoaks Russ Owen was murdered on his wedding day to Mercedes McQueen in last nights episode.

In one of the biggest plot twists on the Channel 4 soap to date, viewers had to wait patiently until the end of the episode for his killer to be revealed as none other than Breda McQueen (Moya Brady), whos also put Carl Costello and Glenn Dovoan into body bags.

Russ had only just returned to Hollyoaks alongside Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) in August after nine years off-screen, so it comes as no shock that fans have been struggling to come to terms with his death.

Its not just avid audiences who are devastated by Russ loss though, as actor Stuart Manning told Metro.co.uk that besides it being an amazing going away storyline, he didnt want to go.

Stuart confessed: To be honest, I didnt want to die.

The thing was it kind of felt right for Russs character because to bring him back full time would be a bit difficult, especially with Mercedes and how big her character is within the show. I think Russ would get lost if he wasnt with her.

He added: It kind of made sense, we spoke about it (producer Bryan Kirkwood) and we said it feels right. The Production Company and Bryan were absolutely fantastic and they slowly got me into it.

They were like “Were going to do it here and its going to be this big thing and Bredas going to do it and no ones going to know.”

Stuart continued: It actually came around at the perfect time for me as well because I got married in October, so it paid for my wedding.

On top of Russ dramatic murder, new serial killer on the block Breda was unveiled – and according to Stuart, her storyline has no end in sight.

Revealing to us, he said: When I left, it still wasnt written when she was going to be caught out.

I dont think even they (production) know yet. I dont think its been filmed at all. You just dont know when its going to come out, and I think its going to be another massive reveal.

Itll come out at one of those points in the story when you just think “itll never come out then” and then all of a sudden it does.

Stuart is leaving Hollyoaks to go back to being a jobbing actor, so the possibilities of where we could see, or hear, him next are endless.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 7pm on E4.
