Former Magpie Josh Smith on Gold Coast radar

Former Magpie defender Josh Smith toured the Gold Coast facilities on Wednesday as the club contemplates adding another mature body to the list.

The hard-working 24-year-old was delisted by Collingwood at the end of the season after 32 games in three seasons with the club.

He was a consistent performer in defence in his first two seasons after arriving from Queensland as a rookie selection in 2016, finishing seventh in the club best and fairest in his first season.

However he played just one game with the Magpies in 2018 as they stormed to the grand final with Brayden Maynard and James Aish preferred in defence and Nathan Murphy emerging as a defender.

Smith showed his versatility playing on the wing and his fastidious approach would add to the professionalism of the Suns who are virtually starting again in 2019.

The Suns have already added Geelong pair George Horlin-Smith and Jordan Murdoch, Richmond's Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis as well as three mature aged recruits from the state leagues.

Former Magpie and St Kilda speedster Nathan Freeman also toured the Suns earlier in the week ahead of the second delisted free agency period that closes this Friday.

The Suns have a strong hand at the upcoming national draft, with selections two, three, six, 24 and 29.
