Morrissey has spoken out for the first time since reports claimed he was punched in the head during his concert in San Diego.

Earlier this week, a video was released by TMZ of the star fleeing his set after a number of punters invaded the stage at the Symphony Hall on Saturday night.

In the clip, a hand was then seen raised up towards Morrisseys head, as he was caught up in the action.

It is not clear whether the person actually made contact with Morrissey, as security were quick to usher the Suedehead hitmaker to safety.

However, the 59-year-old has since released a statement where he slammed the fictitious reports and called them absolutely crap.

He said: The concert and the crowd were a dream night for me. I was honored and grateful for such an excited and loving response.

It concluded an outstanding set of U.S dates and I am absolutely thrilled, NME reported.

At the time his reps told Metro.co.uk: Nobody tried to punch M last night. Morrisseys fans are not malicious.

The fans were simply doing what they have been doing for almost 30 years. Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him.

The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most, so security had to do their job and subdue the fan. Thats all it was.

They added: In the end no one was hurt, and no one was arrested.

Fans were quick to take to social media to make sure the singer was okay.

One wrote: Lets identify the guy that punched Morrissey in the face and get him banned.

Another added: Someone punched him?! Fuck I hate ppl. I must have missed that bc by that point I couldnt see as ppl were climbing all over me. Hope hes okay.

Someone else commented: Is it confirmed he was punched? Wow, thats repugnant.

Earlier this year, Morrissey postponed his summer tour dates to November due to logistical circumstances.
