Good news: NRMA says fuel prices to come down in Central West soon

Central Western motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as fuel prices are expected to fall further in the coming three to four weeks, according to the NRMA.

Although fuel prices in the region have come down from a four-and-a-half year high, the drop hasnt been very significant.

For instance, the average petrol price in Dubbo was 160 cents per litre on November 11, 2018, whereas it was 163.2 cents on October 17, 2018.

A year ago on November 11, 2017, the average petrol price in Dubbo was 135.4 cents.

The average petrol price was highest in Young (160.7 cents) and cheapest in Lithgow (142.4 cents) in the Central West on November 11, 2018.

On the same day petrol was selling at an average price of 156.4 cents in Orange and 154.5 cents in Bathurst.

NRMA spokeswoman Rebecca Page said motorists can expect more relief before Christmas.

“We have started to see a very small fall over the last two weeks in regional NSW,” Ms Page said.

“The prices should be falling faster than they are.”

Ms Page said prices are coming down across Australia at the moment.

“In regional areas we expect prices to continue to fall over the next two to three weeks. Regional motorists will get it at a cheaper price before Christmas,” she said.

Ms Page said motorists travelling across the Central West such as from Dubbo to Lithgow or between Bathurst and Orange should buy petrol from the station selling cheapest fuel.

“Local retailers do play a part in pricing. We do encourage motorists to find local solutions like people can look at the NRMA mobile application for cheaper petrol in their areas. NRMA has live petrol prices from all services stations in NSW,” she said.

Ms Page said currently petrol prices are cheaper in Sydney compared with regional areas.

“The price cuts in Sydney at the moment are relatively good and around the mid-130s, which is such a welcome relief considering we have been seeing an average of around 150s. It takes some time to filter these to regional areas for many reasons including the logistics, transporting and different fuel markets,” she said.

The NRMA said reason for a drop in price was the result of an increase in oil production by the oil producing countries such as Saudi Arabia and Libya, and a stronger Australian dollar.
