Young boy dies while fishing after creek bed collapses at Central West property

CENTRAL West Police District officers are investigating the tragic death of a young boy on a property near Molong on Saturday afternoon.

According to police reports, an 11-year-old boy died after a creek bed collapsed while he and two other boys were fishing.

Emergency services, including two NSW ambulance crews and a helicopter, were called to the Mitchell Highway property just after 2pm.

Police have been told three boys were fishing on the creek bed about 35 kilometres north of Orange when it collapsed.

The child was treated for critical injuries sustained during the incident, but died at the scene.An eight-year-old boy was also transported to Orange hospital for assessment, although it is believed he and the other boy at the scene escaped serious injury.

Officers from Central West Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and prepare a report for the coroner.
