Robert Pattinson has claimed he came close to punching award-winning director Robert Eggers, whom he worked with on his new movie The Lighthouse.
Speaking to co-star Willem Dafoe, the pair discussed one particularly brutal scene on the set of their new horror movie where they were being sprayed with water, and Rob claimed that it was the closest Ive come to punching a director.
However much I love Robert [Eggers], there was a point where I did five takes walking across the beach, said Rob, and after a while I was like, “What the fuck is going on? I feel like youre just spraying a fire hose in my face”.
And he was like, “I am spraying a fire hose in your face”. It was like some kind of torture. It definitely creates an interesting energy.
The pair star in new horror movie The Lighthouse which is described by Rob as an esoteric movie about demon harvesting; it follows an aging lighthouse keeper in early 20th-century Maine and Rob and Willem are the only two main characters.

Sitting down to interview each other for Interview magazine, Willem also reveals that Rob had him puzzled as the Twilight actor barely spoke to anyone during production – but Rob explained that was simply because he realised in the rehearsal period that you understood the script a lot more than I did, so I didnt want to reveal that.
Rob has been vocal in the past about his decision to argue with directors over the focus of a film or performance, but he told Metro.co.uk that as he has grown up in the industry, he no longer tries to ruffle feathers.
When someone is telling you what to to do and you dont really know how to get to what you want to do then it becomes confrontation, he said.
But I think when you have more autonomy in what jobs youre choosing… so generally I choose a director because I want to be part of their world, rather than wanting to impose my ideas on it.
Obviously you try and help facilitate what they want to do, but I think when I was in my early 20s, you just think its more about you, so you kind of… youre trying to direct almost through your performance so then genuinely you ruffle some feathers.
