Mobile Police Facility to be setup at IGA car park near Carter Street

Homicide Squad detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 31-year-old, Sam Riley.

Mr Riley was located at a home in Carter Street, West Busselton on Tuesday, 30 October 2018 in West Busselton.

A Mobile Police Facility will be located in the IGA Shopping Centre car park on the corner of Bussell Highway and Carter Street from 7am on Friday, November 9.

The facility will be manned by detectives and they are appealing for anyone with any information to speak with them.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity during in the vicinity of Carter Street during the evening of Monday, October 29 to the morning of Tuesday, October 30, is asked to speak to detectives at the facility or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The family of Samuel Riley, the victim of a suspected homicide, have expressed their devastation and urged anyone with information to contact authorities.

The 31-year-old was discovered by a carer making a visit to the property.

Detective Inspector Christopher Taylor from the Major Crime Division addressed media near the crime scene on October 31 and said police forensics would be on the scene for as long as it takes.

Det. Inspector Taylor would not elaborate on circumstances surrounding the Mr Rileys death but said it was a disturbing and confronting scene for those first to the scene.

“The victim will be having a post mortem conducted and from there we will hopefully be able to establish a cause of death,” he said.

“The squads priority is to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the mans death, and whether another person was involved.”

He was unable to confirm if a weapon or weapons had been located and would await the results of the states pathologist before commenting further.

“Police will look at all circumstances – at this point we have no suspects in custody,” he said.

“Everything will be looked at.”

Det. Inspector Taylor used the opportunity to appeal to the public for assistance.

He urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around West Busselton around the time of the incident to provide that footage to police.

Although the suspect is still at large, Det. Inspector Taylor said there had been no credible information to suggest there was a threat to public safety.

On November 1, Mr Rileys family released a statement and requested privacy as they grieve to the loss of Sam.

“Our family is devastated with loss of Sam who will be remembered as a kind, gentle person who would not harm anyone,” they said.

“If you have any small piece of information that may help in the investigation please contact the Western Australian Police.”
