Dean has been coping with a difficult situation in Home and Away lately, as his unstable mother Karen has arrived in the Bay. Recently, shes been keen to party and ignore her previous offences, and Dean has struggled to rein her in as shes turned to emotional blackmail whenever hes tried.
After spotting Dean and Colby talking, Karen guesses the cops are on her trail and does a runner – but its not long before she makes a return on the back of a strangers motorbike.
Clearly in the mood to party, Dean struggles to get her to lie low in his caravan as shes wanted by the police, and an argument soon erupts between them.
Dean tries to persuade an increasingly irate Karen to see a doctor for her psychiatric issues, but she snaps and whacks him around the head with a frying pan, leaving him unconscious on the floor.

Scared by what shes done, Karen decides to take her mind off things and cook a meal. She turns on the hob and goes to look for matches, but ends up passing out cold on the bed, leaving the hob to pump poisonous gas into the caravan while mother and son lie unconscious….
