Race-by-race preview and tips for Wagga

Showcase meeting on Good 3 and rail is true so should play on-pace early before gradual leaning towards the outside. Chance of late rain.

Race 1 – 1:35PM BATKIN & DAMME SMASH REPAIRS SHOWCASE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Locally-trained 1. Tully Toff resumes in a suitable race and has been hard in the market each time he's gone around, four times placed from seven starts. Big watch on two Canberra fillies and first starters 5. Ameares who trialled well at home and the well-bred 6. Elm Court whose only trial was a quiet one nearly 11 months back before she was put out, but has been reportedly working well.
Dangers: Expect improvement from Albury colt 3. So Magnifique who got too far back here as a heavily-backed favourite at his second career start, and will obviously park a lot closer in the smaller field.
How to play it: Quinella 1 and 6.

Most stayers around the region have seen better days, but seven-year-old Goulburn warrior 4. Irenic might still have some good ones in front of him. Closed off nicely in the Queanbeyan Cup on Sunday when specked at a big price and before that was close-up at home behind the promising Jagger over a longer trip. Virtually on the limit weight and with senior rider aboard he's the best value.
Dangers: Queanbeyan Cup winner 1. Charlie Royale is obviously going great guns on the quick back-up, but he goes up significantly in weight and in trip while the more lightly-raced 5. Bocain won his maiden three starts back at Wangaratta and hit the line hard last start at Bathurst over 2000m when heavily backed. Looks suited by the extra distance.
How to play it: Back Irenic to win and box 1-4-5 in the trifecta.

Race 3– 2:50PM BUDGET BENCHMARK 66 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Good competitive sprint and keen on five-year-old Canberra mare 7. Bank Of Erin who has never missed a place in six career starts. Steamed home to just miss at Albury last start off a five-week break, and the extra little trip suits. Drawn out so will drift back and look to get a trail and charge home.
Dangers: Goulburn-trained 9. Ribands is a consistent performer who finished strong in a BM 60 at Canberra last start, and the rise in class is offset by nice weight drop. Kembla mare 4. Anna's Joy ran a fair race against stronger opposition last start and mixed it in much stronger metro company earlier in the year.
How to play it: Bank of Erin to win.

Race 4– 3:25PM RIVERINA SIGNMAKERS COUNTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

Tough and open at set weights, although much will revolve around the two three-year-old Danny Williams-trained geldings from Goulburn. Despite being totally unwanted in betting on debut at Moruya, 10. Refire charged home from well back off a moderate tempo and should appreciate the long stretch here being by group 1 winner Epaulette out of a Sadler's Wells mare while stablemate 11. Trump Me has trialled twice at home, never let go in his last one, and looks ready to go.
Dangers: Probably only one in four-year-old Wagga-trained 4. Monterey Zar who has been well prepared off a dominant trial win while another local 6. Titian Storm got home OK from well off the speed last start and will be running on again.
How to play it: Refire to win.

Race 5– 4:05PM CHRIS HEYWOOD RACING 2018 STAN SADLEIR STAKES (1400 METRES)

Feature race and looks ideal for Canberra-trained 2. Rinviata. Was close-up behind Ruthless Agent two starts back at Moruya when heavily backed before getting home nicely in stronger BM85 Tony Campbell Cup at home. Drawn to get a nice smother midfield and charge over the top.
Dangers: Wagga mare 3. My Maher won two straight before campaigning fairly against stronger types in town, and will appreciate coming back to her home track at a more suitable distance. The handicapper hasn't missed classy 1. Ruthless Agent with 61kg coming back from the Kosciuszko on a Heavy 9 at Randwick. Previous form was solid, but the weight gap looks a little big against a few of these. Canberra mare and last start Bombala Cup winner 4. Rock On Zariz is very honest and can't be dismissed from the rail draw.
How to play it: Rinviata to win.

Race 6– 4:40PM ADAMS KENNEALLY WHITE & CO CLASS 1 & MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE (1600 METRES)

Looks a nice race for Goulburn topweight 1. Laughing Or Crying who gets to his right trip third-up. Jumped out favourite in his last two, each time finding the line from well back over shorter journeys, and from a nice gate here can be saved for the last crack.
Dangers: Well bred Goulburn three-year-old 12. Or Else is still a maiden, but has found the line nicely in his last two and if he gets enough speed on up front will be rocketing home from the good gate. I have plenty of time for local 2. Manhattan Zip which hit the line well two runs back at Cootamundra before a fair effort at Albury. Can run a smart last 400m and will like the long Wagga straight.
How to play it: Laughing Or Crying to win.

Race 7– 5:20PM BUSH & CAMPBELL ACCOUNTANTS BRAGGER CUP – BM50 SHOWCASE HANDOCAP (1600 METRES)

A modest and open affair where luck and tempo will have their say. Canberra-trained 3. Greyfell gets his chance here coming back from two strong closing efforts in BM65 grade. Is up significantly in weight, but gets a nice spot on the speed map and won over longer three runs back.
Dangers: Any number, but Queanbeyan visitor 2. Canford Calling has consistently hit the line well in his last few and local 7. Monsoon Charlie who flashed home to win over 2000m at Albury three runs back look the best of them.
How to play it: Box 2-3-7 in exacta.

Race 8– 5:55PM TREASURY WINE ESTATES CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Very keen on smart Canberra filly 8. Sausedge which resumes for a strong stable virtually on the limit weight. By Cox Plate and Australian Guineas winner Shamus Award, won on debut at Moruya back in July and is drawn to box seat here.
Dangers: The form of Canberra-trained 4. Your Knuckleship has been solid for this grade finding the line nicely at home in his last two and is a mile over the odds while Victorian raider 2. Yeldarb thundered home to just miss at Swan Hill and has experience already at this track.
How to play it: Sausedge to win.
