Payroll woes solved, teachers will be paid in current period

Teachers around the western region are expected to be paid either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning despite payroll problems with the Department of Education.

NSW Teachers Federations Duncan McDonald said he understood the department was working its hardest to make sure teachers were paid by close of business Thursday, which was also the end of the fortnightly pay system.

“Its my understanding [teachers] should be paid by Thursday and they will be paid in this pay period,” he said.

“It could still present a problem for some teachers with periodic payments.”

A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said some payments that had been processed ahead of time had been delayed but would land in the allocated bank accounts by the end of the pay period.

“Due to an administrative delay, some payments for this pay period may not be paid ahead of time, but will be deposited today and tomorrow [Wednesday and Thursday] by the official pay day,” the spokesperson said.

Mr McDonald said the issue steamed from the implementation of a new payroll system. The Department spokesperson has expressly denied this claim.
