Jazz man to head up night of food & music at Arc of Iris

French born, Dunsborough based musician Serge Le Goueff will perform at the newly refurbished Arc of Iris on Saturday November 10.

French born musician, Serge Le Goueff will entertain guests with an unforgettable jazz performance at the newly refurbished Arc of Iris restaurant in Margaret River next weekend.

Living in Dunsborough and having performed several south west gigs including his hugely popular show, Sax Life, Le Goueff is no stranger to the tastes and likes of a south west audience.

“At the Arc of Iris performance, guests can look forward to some beautiful jazz music from the 20s, 30s and 40s, with sounds from three different saxophones and maybe even my flute and clarinet.

“I will be singing and playing to keep everyone smiling,” said Le Goueff.

From the age of 10, Le Goueff attended a school for artists in France. Surrounded by other talented individuals, he quickly leaned towards music, and the saxophone.

Influenced by his creative peers, he also dabbled in painting, specifically the pointillism style of painting, founded in the 1860s in France.

After finishing school, he polished his skills at the French Conservatoire de Music, but upon graduation, realised there was no work for classical saxophonists, so opted to broaden his repertoire to include jazz.

In the early 1990s, Serge migrated to Australia and was offered a position at the WA Academy of Performing Arts where he studied jazz performance for 4 years.

It was here, he earned the nickname Pepe, by which he is still known today.

“I adore classical music, however I quickly realised as a performer it wasnt the right choice, so I endeavoured to study jazz for another 4 years at university in WA.

“I studied every single decade of jazz and loved them all. So it was an easy transgression for me – classical to jazz,” he said.

Le Goueff has enjoyed a successful career around the world, performing extensively in Asia, Europe and Australia with the likes of James Morrison, Dave Weckl, Mickey Tucker, and John Hoffman.

“As I grow older, I have grown to realise, its not about me, its about the people, and what they enjoy.

“So, for now, I have moved away from free jazz and I focus on mainstream jazz from artists such as Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong.

“My purpose as a musician at my age is to make people happy. If I get a smile on peoples faces, well thats great,” explained Le Goueff..

The recently refurbished Arc of Iris has been expanded to the old Katchup restaurant premises, and boasts a new menu featuring share plates and fine dining options.

The venue will open a cocktail lounge bar adjacent to the restaurant in coming weeks, for patrons to enjoy a mix of cocktails, drinks, share plates, fine dining and entertainment.

Serge Le Goueff will perform at the Arc of Iris on Saturday November 10. There will be two intimate sittings, one at 6pm and another 8pm.

Entry is free, however bookings are essential.
