Despite reportedly enlisting the services of Ed Sheeran to give them a contemporary edge ahead of their comeback, Westlife have decided to go back to their roots.

According to Steve Mac, the 46-year-old songwriter who has penned several songs for Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Markus Feehily and Shane Filans comeback album, fans should be excited for their new material.

Theres a few songs at the moment. Were not sure how many will end up on the album, he said of the Irish bands imminent return to the music scene.

It just was fantastic getting back with them and having that first meeting … I wanted to get back in there and all the feelings came back and the key changes come out and the gospel choirs … its gonna be great!

Westlife went their separate ways in October 2011, as they had run out of steam and lost the love for what they are doing.

Brian McFadden quit the group in 2004 following a number of disagreements with his bandmates. During their 14 years together, Westlife dominated the charts and sold over 44 million of records worldwide.

Hits like Flying Without Wings, You Raise Me Up and World of Our Own earned them 26 UK Top 10 hits, 14 UK Number One Singles and seven chart-topping albums.

In 2012, the Official Charts Company declared Westlife the 34th biggest-selling singles artists in British music history.

Steve told Bang Showbiz he was keen to work with the group for their comeback because he recognises that his previous collaborations with the Flying Without Wings hitmakers were the launchpad for his own successful career.

Westlife will celebrate their reformation with a reunion tour next year with a 10-date UK tour which included several major cities including London and Birmingham.
