Students box up Christmas joy for kids in need

Students from St Thomas More Catholic Primary School in Margaret River have been hard at work, putting together special Christmas shoeboxes for the Samaritans Purse Operation Christmas Child.

Teacher Abbey Halse said the whole school was involved in collecting items to go in the shoeboxes, which are shipped to children in need in time for Christmas.

“All were involved from Kindy to year 6, and we were able to make up 50 boxes,” Ms Halse said.

“As a school we chose to take part in this wonderful project as it taught the kids about how Christmas is not just about receiving gifts but also giving them.”

Donations of hand knitted beanies were also collected for the boxes, which were created with all ages and genders in mind.

“We had discussions with the kids about what sorts of gifts would be appropriate and the reasons why,” said Ms Halse.

“Thank you to the Tommie More community for being involved in this project, and thank you to Maryka from the Samaritans who helped to organise and pick up the gifts.”
