James Arthur made a comeback in 2016 with his album Back From The Edge, after being dropped from Simon Cowells record label.

Since then he has kept on teasing fans with hits from his next release – the latest being the new single Empty Space.

In the song it appears James is talking about an ex lover, who he was once passionate about and misses dearly.

The 30-year-old opens up about his battle with addiction and explores the reasons as to why he lost his loved one.

He sings: Ive been drinking, Ive been doing things I shouldnt do / Over thinking, I dont know who I am without you.

Im a liar and a cheat, I let me ego swallow me / And thats why I might never see you again.

He then goes on to relate to something probably a lot of people have been though as he talks about being alone and not being able to find anyone to fill the space left by his previous partner.

The star continued: Im alone in my head looking for love in a strangers bed / But I dont think Ill find it cause only you could fill this empty space.

As the song goes on it appears to document the raw emotions felt after going through a break up, or losing someone you care for.

James spoke of the new release and said in a statement: This song is for anyone who has ever deeply loved and lost someone dear to them, and is then faced with the struggle of trying to fill that void.

He added: It is about coming to terms with the fact that only that special person can truly fill the empty space.

The singer has not only been open in his tracks but also on his social media where he spoke to fans about his mental health.

Earlier this year he opened up to his followers and revealed that he had a panic attack on stage, which made him feel as though he was about to die.

He wrote: I had an anxiety attack on stage in front of 12,000 people tonight and no one wouldve known but I thought I was gunna die on stage.

Talking to Billboard at the time of his 2016 success, the former X Factor winner said: I wasnt really mentally in a good place before I did The X Factor.

The pressure got to me – I was having these bad anxiety attacks all the time. The way that I would deal with that was by self-medicating; it spiraled out of control. I hit the self-destruct button.

He added: Everyone wrote me off – including me.
