In soap, deaths are inevitable and its all the more devastating when a fan favourite is killed off. The bitterness lingers and were left wondering why they ever decided to go through with it in the first place.

The EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks gods create characters that we can empathise with and really invest in. We genuinely care for these characters and what better way to give us all a shock than to bring their life to an end? Most of the time we are accepting of the decision and are able move past it but then there are some characters deaths that we just cant help but still hold a grudge over…

Dennis Rickman (EastEnders)

As Dennis Rickman was the biological son of Sharons adoptive father, theirs was a romance that shouldnt really have worked. Despite this, fans of the show ended up rooting for the couple and it left us heartbroken when he was stabbed on the square on New Years Eve back in 2006. His last words to Sharon were we did it as he died in her arms referring to their unborn son who six months later, she named Dennis after his father who sadly would never get to see him grow up.

Andy Carver (Coronation Street)

In a shock twist after it was believed Phelan had killed Andy, he actually had him chained up in the cellar of an abandoned house for months. From the moment it was revealed he was in fact alive, fans were thrilled and hoped that he would be the one to eventually take Phelan down but alas, Phelan eventually did kill him and we were gutted. Andy, we know youre a top bloke but you should have shot him when you had the chance mate.

Danielle Jones (EastEnders)

This is a death that Im sure no EastEnders fan will ever forget. Danielle was Ronnie Mitchells long lost daughter and evil Archie, Ronnies father, had kept them from reuniting. When the truth finally came out about her identity, it was too late for them to ever build a relationship. Danielle had frozen on the spot upon hearing Janine Butcher speeding down the road and the next thing we knew, shed been run over. Im sure it wasnt just me that was shouting at the television for her to move out of the road!

Gerry Roberts (Emmerdale)

Gerry was a breath of fresh air in Emmerdale with his cheeky charm and his great sense of humour – he never took life too seriously. Although he was only in the show a short while, he certainly made an impression on the village and the viewers. His friendship with Doug was a favourite among fans and he was very much a father figure to Gerry. His death made us all despise serial killer Lachlan even more than we already did and even at deaths door he was still cracking jokes. Gerry, you were too good for this world.

Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell (EastEnders)

It came as a massive shock to viewers when the decision was made to kill off this iconic pair. After all the heartbreak Ronnie had been through in her life it would have been a joy to see her have a happy ending with her soulmate Jack Branning, but unfortunately it wasnt meant to be. Ronnie and Roxy had their fallouts like many siblings do. Not that many fall out over sleeping with their sisters partner but anyway, in the end they were always there for each other. You simply just couldnt have one Mitchell sister without the other so if they had to go it was fitting that they went together.

Valerie Pollard (Emmerdale)

Val was killed during the Summer Fate storyline in 2015 when a helicopter crashed into the village which devastated Emmerdale fans. She was such a bold character, charismatic and not to mention absolutely hilarious. Her rendition of Frank Sinatras My Way in the tape she left for Eric was truly iconic and heartwarming but we hated having to see Eric lose the love of his life and to see Diane lose her sister. She came back as a ghost before in Emmerdales Christmas episode in 2017, so maybe she could come back again? We just really miss her.

Rachel Hardy (Hollyoaks)

When Rachels car broke down as she and fiancé Nathan were on their way to South America, a drunk Holly Roscoe and Cleo McQueen drove into her car, then straight into a metallic structure. As the structure was about to collapse onto them, Rachel told Nathan to go and help Holly and Cleo but by the time he got back to Rachel, the barrel that had fallen leaked petrol and set the car on fire. Nathan tried to get help but the car exploded with Rachel still trapped inside. A cruel end!

Kylie Platt (Coronation Street)

David and Kylie were one of the cobbles most loved couples. They had planned to move to Barbados for a fresh start together with the children but these plans were thwarted when Kylie was tragically stabbed by Clayton when trying to help her friend Gemma Winter. She died in Davids arms just as the ambulance arrived. Both Jack P Shepherd and Paula Lane were highly praised for their emotional and powerful performances. Kylie, you will never be forgotten.

Max Cunningham (Hollyoaks)

Max and Steph only had minutes of happiness as a married couple when Niall came speeding towards Maxs brother Tom. Max came to his rescue pushing him out of the way and taking the hit. He died as his best mate OB held him and Steph unaware of what had happened rushed to his side but he was gone. Boy, this one hurt.

Joseph Tate (Emmerdale)

Okay I know that this one doesnt exactly count because his death has only just happened, but I think its safe to say Emmerdale fans will be mourning Joe and the relationship that could have been with Debbie Dingle for a long time to come. There was a glimmer of hope as we saw Joes fingers move but Graham went and trampled all over it and finished the job. Why Graham? Whyyyy?
