Augusta Spring Show to mark 30th anniversary with pearls

The annual Augusta & Districts Spring Show is on again this month, and this year the event will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a pearl-themed celebration over two days.

The Spring Show is a weekend celebration of the regions finest artists, craftspeople, gardeners, bakers and chefs, with exhibits filling the Augusta Centennial Hall.

Show co-ordinators Wendy Shearwood and Lorraine Monahan said this year the weekends festivities would bear the special theme to recognise three decades of successful events.

“There are various nods to the pearl anniversary theme including categories in the adults and childrens baking classes, and a special pearl floral arrangement category, with one such arrangement created using the pearlescent abalone shells sourced from Augusta,” said Mrs Shearwood.

“We are very excited to be celebrating such a milestone and this years crop of entries is expected to be better than ever, so we are encouraging everyone to come along and enjoy the results of a lot of hard work from local entrants.”

There will be colourful displays by the Augusta and Karridale Primary Schools and the Show ends with a fun Best Pet Competition on Sunday at 2pm.

Judging will take place in the following categories over the weekend: Roses, Flowers, Bowls and Vases. Pot Plants, Hanging Baskets, Floral Art, Photography, Woodwork, Metalwork, Jams and Preserves, Cooking, Fruits and Vegetables, Knitting, Needlework, Crocheting, Spinning and Weaving along with Childrens entries.

The 30th Annual Augusta & Districts Spring Show will kick off on Saturday October 20 from 1pm – 5pm, and continues on Sunday October 21 from 9am – 3.30pm,

Adult entry is $5 and includes morning and afternoon tea, and children may enter the Show free of charge.
