Chris Evans is backtracking on a recent tweet which many read to be confirmation that he was leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe for good.

Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful, he said, taking to Twitter in early October.

But the actor, who has played Captain America for nearly ten years, has now clarified his tweets and revealed that he would have tweeted the exact same thing whether he was going or staying.

I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler, he said at ACE Comic Con in Chicago

I should clarify that regardless of how Avengers 4 ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.

You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought Id feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming nor denying anything.

Much has been made of Avengers 4 potentially being Chris last film, as his contract with Disney is thought to now be up; the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also now moving into a phase that does not include many of the original heroes including Iron Man and Hulk.

The biggest theory surrounding the upcoming Avengers 4 is that Captain America or Tony Stark will die, as Downey Jrs contract is also now up.

Some theories suggest that in fact Cap may die at the hands of Stark – a theory in which we have to deep dive back into 2012 – while others suggest that Cap dying is the only possible outcome, as revealed by Doctor Strange in Infinity War.

The time travel theory is one that seems almost certain at this point for Avengers 4, thanks to set pictures revealing Scarlett Johansson filming scenes sporting red hair, a look which her character Black Widow had in the early Avengers movies, as well as previous set pictures of Captain America in his old uniform.

So of course rather than death, it is possible that after the Avengers reverse time to defeat Thanos (because, duh, they have to. Right?) Cap could decide to go back in time and finally get that dance with Peggy Carter he promised her, all the way back in The First Avenger.

And thats an ending wed much rather cry over, Kevin Feige.
