Baxter hails Bartlett impact after Seychelles rout

Cape Town – Stuart Baxter has hailed the impact of assistant coach Shaun Bartlett after Bafana Bafana's comfortable win over Seychelles in an AFCON qualifier on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

Bafana Bafana put in a convincing display in a goal-scoring 6-0 rout over the islanders with the striking department clinically punishing the visitors.

Baxter revealed that Bartlett, who is South Africa's second most prolific goalscorer had been a huge influence on the strikers ahead of Saturday's win.

"Shaun had a conversation with all the strikers in terms of their finishing and when a top striker like Shaun gives you ideas that helps.

"Lebo Mothiba led the lines with his bullish play, being the Alan Shearer type of player. He bullied the centre-backs who didn't have a moment of peace. I'm pleased with Lebo, his general attitude and also his work rate," Baxter said.

The 65-year-old said he wasn't thinking too far ahead in terms of clinching qualification to next year's AFCON tournament and is rather taking it one game at a time.

"I dont want to think too much ahead, if we wrap it quickly (qualification for AFCON) the better but I dont want to get too far ahead. Even if it goes down to the last game for us to seal qualification it is still nice."

Baxter's side lead Group E with seven points from three games followed by Nigeria with six points and Libya with four. Seychelles are yet to register a point.

Bafana arrived in Seychelles on Sunday afternoon following a 5-hour flight ahead of their clash at the Stade Linete on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
