Keira Knightley was not a fan of the movies name

Keira Knightley has admitted that she is embarrassed by the name of the film, Bend It Like Beckham.

The actress starred in the hit movie back in 2002, but has confessed she has never been a fan of the films moniker.

I remember when I did it I would say to people the name of the film is Bend It Like Beckham, and they would say “that sounds awful” and even when it was coming out youd think “god, cant you change the name?” and so you know, [the success of the film] was a total surprise, she said at the BFI Screen Talk on Friday.

But even Pirates Of The Caribbean was as well, it was based on a Disney theme park and nobody thought it would be any good, even us doing it, we were like “oh it seems quite fun” but a pirate movie hadnt worked in God knows how long before it, so those two were big surprises, she added.

Never say never but I dont think Ill have another successful run of films, she claimed, referring to the early 2000s when she starred in Bend It Like Beckham, three Pirates films, Love Actually, Pride And Prejudice and Atonement.

It was a pretty good hit rate. And I think its funny being in the middle of that because its a lot about luck. For those films to all work and come together and be as successful as they were, and be in the middle of it all was slightly frightening. But extraordinary.

Keira will next star in Colette, which tells the true story of the French author whose husband took her work and put his name on the stories.

The idea of having your voice silenced or taken away is one I think most women identify with, said Keira, admitting it feels very topical for 2018.
