K-pop rock band member Jung Yonghwas nine-month ordeal over accusations that he received preferential treatment when he entered a graduate school is now over.

Yonghwa was cleared of charges of obstruction of business regarding his 2017 admission to a Seoul universitys doctoral program without undergoing any interview.

Jung faithfully underwent judicial probes at the beginning of this year and in July, the prosecutors decided not to indict him after determining that he was not guilty of obstruction of business in regards to his school admissions, said FNC Entertainment.

It added that through the judgment of the law, Jung was cleared of all suspicions and misunderstanding that surrounded his doctoral program admission process and (it was found) that he did not have any intention of receiving preferential admission.

Back in January, news reports stated that a member of an idol group was being investigated for getting VIP treatment in the admission process of the university.

After the CNBLUE stars name surfaced, he issued an apology, saying no matter what the reason, no matter what the truth is, I know everything is my fault and I am deeply sorry. I will humbly accept everything said about me, according to AllKpop.

His admission to the graduate school was officially cancelled by the university.

The scandal forced him to enlist in the military, a mandatory duty for all able-bodied Korean men. FNC Entertainment announced his enlistment on 26 January and he entered the military camp on 5 March.

But two days before his enlistment, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency decided to recommend his indictment to prosecutors for obstruction of business and enrolling in graduate school to delay his military service, which he all denied.

However, the professor who was directly involved in interviewing applicants was convicted by a court and sentenced to 10 months in prison.

The professor was found guilty by a court on 9 October of obstruction of business for falsifying interview scores that were never conducted in the first place for applicants including Yonghwa.

Yonghwa will be discharged from the military in December 2019.
