Over the limit and speeding motorists caught during blitz

A NUMBER of motorists around Brewarrina were caught out by police during the long weekend traffic blitz.

Operation Slow Down, the States Labour Day weekend road safety campaign, started at 12.01am on Friday September 28, and finished at 11.59pm on Monday October 1.

At 2.10am on Sunday, police stopped a motor vehicle at the intersection of Tarrion and Bathurst streets in Brewarrina for the purpose of a random breath test.

The 21-year-old female driver returned a positive reading.

The driver was taken to Brewarrina police station and subjected to a breath analysis test which returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.072.

She was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice to appear at Brewarrina Court at a later date.

Then, at 6pm on October 1, police attempted to stop a 35-year-old male motorbike rider in Brewarrina.

Police pursued the rider along Arthur Hall VC Way.

The rider slowed and failed to navigate a turn, falling off the motorbike. He was not seriously injured.

The Brewarrina man was then arrested and charged with goods in personal custody (motor vehicle), police pursuit and being unlicensed to ride a motorbike.

He was granted conditional bail to appear before Brewarrina Local Court at a later day.
