The Margaret River & Districts Agricultural Society will once again hold the annual Margaret River Show this month, with free entry being offered across the two day event.
Despite changes to the exhibition hall this year there will still be plenty of classic country attractions including sheep dog trials, cattle and poultry.
According to Society President Ray Arthur, the good news will allow locals and visitors to experience the best of local entertainment, livestock, food and community initiatives.
“The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has generously provided us with a grant that will allow us to offer free entry to all patrons at this year's Show,” said Mr Arthur.
Sideshow Alley is bigger and better this year thanks to the addition of new rides, including the Big Dodgem Cars.
“We are hoping that this will encourage even more people to come down and see what is on offer, with a busy entertainment schedule and plenty of animals on display.”
Included in this years festivities will be the annual fireworks, which draws thousands of people from their homes to watch the display over Gloucester Park on the Friday evening.
While the traditional exhibition hall will not be open due to major structural upgrades to the Cultural Centre precinct, Mr Arthur said there was a large range of animal and sporting displays, including sheep dog trials (Friday and Saturday), cattle and poultry judging, a pipe band and Navy band, as well as motocross exhibitions and the favourite Tug O War competition.
The annual Margaret River Pet Show will be open for entries with judging taking place at 4.30pm on the Friday afternoon.
Also included in the community-based activities for 2018 will be a tribute to the Miles family, with a wreath to be created using flowers and natural items brought along by local contributors.
“This is in recognition of the family and past work within the community, as well as recognising the strength and unity of our locals,” said Mr Arthur.
Those wishing to take part in the wreath can bring a flower, leaf or natural item from their gardens to contribute to the wreath, which will be displayed at the Show.
Organiser Jodie Buck said the Show would be an emotional journey for many this year.
“Our community and volunteers acknowledge our Show will be tough without our eco-warrior and we wish to thank all of the support our volunteers have received from this amazing town,” she said.
The Margaret River Ag Show starts at 3pm on Friday October 12 until late, with gates re-opening from 9am to 3pm on Saturday October 13. Fireworks are expected to be held from 8.30pm.
