Its hard to believe that its been 12 years since Ruby Allen was last in the show and Louisa Lytton has admitted that she never expected to get the call to return to EastEnders. And, in the interim since she left, she told Metro.co.uk that she didnt keep up with the episodes as it was easier for her to make a clean break.

She explained: I hadnt really watched it. When I left at such a young age, it was a weird feeling like breaking up with a boyfriend and having to see them again. It left a weird, heavy feeling in my stomach. Obviously when I got the call I started watching again to know who everybody was.

And Louisa is over the moon to be working with familiar faces again – especially Lacey Turner who plays Rubys BFF Stacey Fowler.

Louisa enthused: Its so nice. When we first saw each other in the make-up room, I was sat in the chair and she moved in, and we giggled like schoolgirls for the first ten minutes, she kept saying “I cant believe youre here.” It was really weird because I hadnt seen her for probably about six or seven years and within minutes it was back to day one.

Louisa has good memories of her time back in the old days and admits that she never felt the pressure as she just went with the flow when she was 15-years-old. She told us: My friendship circle always stayed the same, my family kept me grounded. Nothing happened to make me feel I was abnormal. I took it in my stride but it was because I was so young. If this was my first job now going into EastEnders, I would probably be a nervous wreck but because I was so young, I was busy doing my GCSEs and worried about what I was going to wear on the weekend!

One of the things which made it easier back then was the absence of social media. She added: We didnt even have Facebook so you could get on with your everyday life and no one knew what you were doing – you didnt feel pressure to be a certain way or show your life off in a certain way, all these things we do now. We didnt have that back then which I think was a good thing, and why I felt like I had a normal life. Unless I was at the soap awards no one knew what I was doing.

Its a slightly different world for the young cast now in the show at the same age Louisa was during her first stint. But what advice would she give them?

She mused: Appreciate every moment – you dont know how long its going to last. To be honest all the youngsters here have really got their heads screwed on and are really together. I dont think they even need any advice!
