“Obviously with the drought we are just looking ahead, and it doesnt look like were going to get any significant amount of rain anytime in the near future,” Mr Francis said.

Mr Francis said the restrictions are focused around watering gardens, particularly hand held hoses and sprinklers.

Level one restrictions include:

  • Sprinklers, sprays, microjet sprays, and fixed hoses are allowed for two hours per day, within the periods 7am – 9am and 7pm to 9pm.
  • Hand-held hoses can be used between 5pm and 9am
  • No washdown of hard surfaces unless using a high-pressure cleaner.
  • Vehicles can be washed any time if using a high-pressure cleaner.
  • Recycled, greywater and rainwater can be used only from tanks not connected to the treated supply.
  • Pools can be filled and topped up.

Applications can be made to Councils Engineering Department to vary watering times in cases of hardship.
