TWO people have been charged during an operation targeting illegal hunting and trespassing during the past fortnight.
The Rural Crime Prevention Investigation Team, along with PolAir, Target Action Group officers and general duties officers conducted Operation Snare across the past two weekends in the New England, Oxley and Central North Police districts
Officers particularly targeted the areas of Barraba, Manilla, Pilliga, Warialda, Bingara, Yetman, Burren Junction and Carinda.
State Rural Crime Co-ordinator Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said police stopped and searched numerous vehicles which were involved in hunting during the operation.
“Officers issued nine infringement notices as well as numerous warnings for traffic, hunting and dog registration offences,” he said.
Then, at 2.15am on Saturday, September 29, officers stopped a vehicle in Dangar Street, Pilliga.
The driver, a 25-year-old man, was spoken to and the vehicle was searched.
“Officers allegedly located a machined silencer for a large calibre rifle, ammunition, tins of gunpowder, primers, and an expired registration plate for a quad bike,” Detective Inspector Whiteside said.
“He was issued an infringement for unlawfully possess number plate and issued a field court attendance notice for the offences of possess prohibited weapon, and holder of category AB licence not have approved storage.”
A court date has not yet been set.
At 8.35pm on Saturday, September 29, New England Rural Crime investigators were patrolling Allan Cunningham Way in Gineroi, when they stopped a car being driven by a 30-year-old woman.
Officers had cause to search the vehicle, subsequently locating a stolen council road sign, as well as a quantity of the drug ice.
The woman was charged with supply prohibited drug between small and indictable quantity, and goods in custody.
She was bail refused to appear at Moree Local Court on Tuesday, October 2.
