Emmerdale spoilers: 8 things which happen in Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirks tragic baby loss storyline
Emmerdale fans are bracing themselves for some heartbreaking scenes next week as the next stage in Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirks devastating journey unfold – and this is everything that we know so far after previewing the episodes and speaking to the stars involved including Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt.
The couple have known the horrific outcome for some time but that doesnt make what theyre about to go through any easier whatsoever. As Chas goes into labour, the countdown is on for one of the worst moments of their lives – can they cope?
Chas gives birth to a baby called Grace
After going into labour several weeks early, Chas gives birth to baby Grace and she and Paddy cradle their newborn daughter, trying their best to block out their foreboding knowledge of what is about to come.
A special flash-forward fantasy episode is planned
As Padyd starts to imagine what life would have been like for them as a family unit, he and Chas are transported by their own imaginations into an alternate reality that sees them spend some time with Grace, as if she had survived.

Lucy told Metro.co.uk: Theyre thinking about all of the things that they wont get to do with her. They kind of go there with her in their minds – it was traumatic but it was beautiful filming it. When you are pregnant, you do think about all of the things you are going to do with your child so its nice in a way to have been able to see some of that and the kids were absolutely gorgeous.
Chas and Paddy experience the life of Grace at the ages of 1, 4 and 12
Lucy shared with us: Its like a fantasy flash forward. So its Grace when she has just been born then at 1, at 4 and then 12. Its the kind of things they would have done with her if shed have still been around – its in their heads in the delivery room after shes just been born.
The couple break down as they say goodbye to Grace
As they return to reality with a bump, the parents say their final goodbyes to Grace as she passes away in her mothers arms. As the enormity of their horrific loss hits home, Chas and Paddy break down, knowing their lives have changed forever in the most devastating way.
There are some uplifting scenes among the tragedy
Lucy explained that there is some hope and serenity among the agony of the episode. Of the flash forward scenes, she said: It was nice as when you have a tragic birth coming up, everything is so down so its good to think were not going to spend two weeks in a hospital crying, going through labour and birth and having absolutely harrowing times. The episode needs the lightness. We have had a massive build up of how awful it is going to be so to have that lightness is a relief. Its bittersweet to the audience and characters.

They will deal with the pain in different ways
As has been the way throughout this terrible journey, it seems like Chas and Paddy may have different approaches in how to deal with the tragedy they are facing. But will they be able to support one another through their biggest challenge to date?
Chas refuses to postpone Aaron and Roberts wedding
Lucy shared with us: Aaron and Paddy and others suggest postponing it but its like, no, its been planned. She doesnt want to ruin Aaron and Roberts special day. So she decides to deal with this day and then deal with what happens afterwards. Its very much ignoring what has happened and doing everything to ensure Aaron and Robert have an amazing day.
There is hope that the couple will get through this
Both Lucy and Dominic appear to hope that Paddy and Chas will get through this together – and fans are certainly behind the much loved couple standing strong and remaining a unit as they go through this. While the future will undoubtedly tough, there is hope they will come out the other side together.
