The two were involved in a tense-looking exchange at Manchester United's Carrington training ground, a day after Mourinho confirmed the World Cup star had been stripped of the role of vice-captain.

Footage revealed by Sky Sports shows the two men exchanging less-than-friendly words with Pogba reacting to something Mourinho said as the player came out for training.

It has now been revealed that an Instagram Story posted by Pogba during United's shock exit to Derby County in the Caraboa Cup was what riled Mourinho up.

The 55-year-old coach had been made aware of an Instagram post that showed Pogba and team-mate Andres Pereira laughing in the stands at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The post went out at 11:28 (SA time) suggesting that it was posted after the game, but was actually filmed during the first half of United's clash with Derby.

A problem with the club Wi-Fi has been blamed for the post only being posted after the final whistle.

United were leading 1-0 at half-time but went on to suffer a shock defeat to Frank Lampard's Derby side on penalties.

Mourinho was reportedly furious about the laughing post which is what he confronted Pogba about after the player ran onto the training pitch on Wednesday morning.

Pogba can be seen greeting assistant coach Michael Carrick and United press officer John Allen before having a bemused reaction when Mourinho questioned him over his Instagram activity.

It was Allen who alerted Mourinho to the social media post and he can be seen in the video footage being called over by Mourinho who asks: "When did Paul Pogba post on Instagram?".

Mourinho then instructed Allen to apologise to Pogba over the misunderstanding.
