FIFA has explained how the voting for the player and coach categories took place – national team captains, national team managers, selected journalists and, for the first time, an online poll of fans, with each accounting for 25% of the total.

According to Soccer Laduma website, Baxter did not vote for Juventus star and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo while Hlatshwayo did not give a nod to Lionel Messi.

The winner was announced on Monday evening and Croatian maestro Modric, who beat out Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, claimed the prestigious accolade.
