Cricket clubs call out for players ahead of season start

Spring has sprung! The AFL finals are here, the smell of freshly mown grass is lingering in the air and parents are dreading the next 2 weeks of school holidays.

This can only mean one thing… Cricket is just around the corner!

Whatever standard, ability, commitment level and cricket goals you have, your Margaret River Hawks Cricket Club has something to scratch your cricketing itch. A community and family orientated club, the Hawks have a strong link with the local juniors; have three senior Saturday teams; a thriving corporate T20 cricket competition and the newest and best training facilities in the AMR Shire.

With a turf wicket and two synthetic pitches, the Hawks are also the only club in the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association with the ability to hold triple headers when fixtured.

Our Sri Lankan link has been strengthened this year with the re-signing of popular clubman, assistant curator and reigning Darcy Medallist Rumesh Silva as our import for 2018/19.

The left handed Silva was an extremely likeable character throughout the association last season and his smile infectious……..hence his nickname was quickly formed as The Smiling Assasin.

The Hawks have started training with great numbers on the park so far, but as is always the case, are still looking for anyone interested in pulling on the whites.

Male or female; 300 games of experience to players who have never played before; FIFO workers, new to town or full-time players. We welcome all and have all gear ready to play if required.

The Hawks are also the first club in the BMRCA to issue game day shirts for all players so you are immediately dressed like a Hawk from day one.

The Hawks are also putting a shout out for players from Karridale South that are interested in playing to contact our friends at the Augusta Cricket Club.

President Tyson Warnke is looking for more players to join the Southerners for the upcoming season.

With a C grade team nominated, the Augusta CC is a youthful but energetic cricket club based where the two oceans meet.

The club boasts some brilliant juniors coming through of the likes of Charlie Flintoff, and a fantastic community backing the team combines to create an exciting future in Augusta.

Training is on Thursday nights from 5pm. Any questions related to cricket in Augusta can be directed to Tyson Warnke on 0487 597 587.

To contact the Hawks about playing in Margaret River, call president Al Wilkie, 0419 957 799.
