Mourners have been warned that if they are caught using their mobile phones, they will be asked to leave by state police.
Its expected the ceremony could last for up to five hours, with Jennifer Hudson paying special tribute to her idol by singing Amazing Grace.
Other performances will be given by Ariana Grande, Faith Hill and Stevie Wonder.
Mourners began gathering at the Greater Grace Temple on Friday morning, including Bill and Hillary Clinton. Former President Bill Clinton is set to do a reading during the ceremony.
Its understood Aretha has been dressed in a full-length, gold sparkling dress with sequinned heels for her funeral.
At the time of Arethas passing, Jennifer wrote on Instagram: I have no words, so I will let the Queen say it ! But I will Say while teaching me about your life , u taught me so much about life and schooled me in mine. I will never forget those teachings (sic)
It has been reported that Ariana will sing Natural Woman, after Arethas family were touched by her performance of the tune just two days after the 76-year-olds death.
Talking on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the God Is A Woman songstress opened up about her experience of meeting the star.
She said: I met her a few times. We sang at the White House and she was so sweet, she was so cute. Its an honour to have met her. She called me one time, one time only, and she goes “Hi, its Aretha,” and Im like, “Franklin?!”
According to Ari, the diva had called to see if she would listen to some music recorded by her nephew or her grandson.
She added: I dont remember because it was Aretha Franklin on the phone and I didnt know what was happening.
I was like “Oh my god, Id be honoured to listen. Thank you for thinking of me. Just text me the MP3 or something.” And she was like, “Well, I dont know how to do that so Im just gonna send it to you.”
And then like four months later I got a package with a CD. But it was nice. It was great.
