Votes are in: Should Man United sack Mourinho?

Cape Town – Sport24 ran a day-long poll on Twitter asking readers whether or not Manchester United should sack manager Jose Mourinho.

The final results are rather interesting.

United have started their Premier League campaign in disappointing fashion as the 20-time champions suffered two defeats in three games, a first for the club since 1992.

Their 3-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening had the football world questioning whether Mourinho will face the sack – sooner rather than later.

During the post-match press conference, the 53-year-old accused the press of trying to twist their facts about the game and turn a good performance into a bad one.

Mourinho clearly lost his patience with the journalists, and proceeded to go on an angry rant about his management record as he got up and left the room.

Holding up three fingers, he asked: "Do you know what was the result? 3-0. Do you know what this means? 3-0 but also means three Premierships and I won more Premierships alone than the other 19 managers together.

"Three for me and two for them two. So respect man, respect, respect, respect."

Of the four options, 16% said that the club should fire Ed Woodward instead of Mourinho – the executive vice-chairperson has been heavily criticised for not backing the manager in the transfer window after handing the Portuguese a new two-year deal in January.

21% believes that the manager needs more time, while 27% hopes that the former Chelsea mentor see out his current contract.

Sport24 reported on Wednesday that Woodward will not sack Mourinho despite United's dismal start in the Premier League and backed the manager to turn things around.

However, 36% of the people who voted are fed up and United to sack the manager before things go from bad to worse.
