Solinas gives clarity on Khune absence

Cape Town – Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas says Itumeleng Khune missed Wednesday's Premiership match against Bloemfontein Celtic due to injury.

According to the Amakhosi mentor, his captain sustained a knock in the MTN8 semi-final first leg against Supersport United last Sunday.

The Glamour Boys were also without newly signed Virgil Vries and the Italian tactician had to hand the responsibilities to young Bruce Mvuma, in the 2-2 stalemate against Phunya Sele Sele.

Solinas stated that he was impressed with the performance of the young goalkeeper against Celtic, but did not give an indication on the length of Khune's injury.

"Khune never played because against SuperSport, if you remember, he picked up an injury in the first half after taking a knock," Solinas told Kick Off.

"He wasn't okay to play, which is unbelievable because it is the first time in my career that I lose two goalkeepers at the same time because Virgil is also injured.

"But I am happy with the performance of Bruce because, in my opinion, he played a good game.

"But, about Khune, don't worry. He's available for the Bafana Bafana. Don't worry, he's available."

The Amakhosi coach also explained that Zimbabwean defender Teenage Hadebe has recovered from injury and will be available for selection in the semi-final second leg match against Matsatsantsa on Saturday.

Added Solinas: "Teenage played in a friendly (on Wednesday), because the players who weren't selected (for the Celtic match) played a game at the village in the morning.

"He's doing much better after coming from injury, and now his fitness is coming okay. He's available for the next game, we will see (if he plays)."
