Hunt demands more from in-form strikers
Cape Town – Wits coach Gavin Hunt says Gift Motupa and Mxolisi Macuphu, who have netted four goals between them, 'can do better'.
Both players were on target in the Students' 3-0 win over AmaZulu on Wednesday night (Simon Murray got the other goal, his first for the club since arriving from Scotland), which took their tally to two a piece – a combined four goals in five league matches.
It's early days yet, and the newly-signed striking duo have shown promise but Hunt still sees room for improvement.
"Yes and no. I'm not [entirely] happy with it, but maybe somebody is," Hunt said when asked for his thoughts on the Macuphu-Motupa contribution.
"Both of them scored tonight which is a good sign. They've scored a few now. But they need to do better.
"In the first-half there were times when they over-hit the ball or under-hit the pass.
"You've got to be better in those areas because at times you are never going to get those chances against a lot of teams. So, you are always going to look for improvement."
Another new signing, Deon Hotto, has also netted twice this season, and Hunt says he's pleased with what the new additions are bringing to his side, which came close to battling relegation last term.
"We have only played five games, but you can see that there's new legs and energy in the team," said the four-time league winning coach.
"We didn't have this last season. We are going to see where we finish after 30 games but there's a still a long way to go."
