When it comes to being daring on stage – Alice Cooper is your man.

From almost hanging himself back in the 80s when his onstage stunt went horribly wrong, to stabbing himself through the leg in a painful mistake that included Errol Flynns sword, its fair to say he has stood the test of time and has earned his legendary status.

And now, still standing strong at the age of 70, the man the myth the legend has spoken to Metro.co.uk about his take on todays industry, and why he thinks modern day musicians need to have a little more balls.

It may come as a surprise that Alice is a fan of Panic! At The Disco, rap music and even a bit of country, but when he explained why, it was clear that he only has an ear for talent.

He said: Im not one of those guys who sits around and says “Well in my day blah blah blah blah blah…”

I try to like everything, I try to like a little bit of country if its clever, I try to like rap if its clever I disregard 95 per cent of whats on the radio, but I listen to the bands that are clever.

He added: So a band like The Strypes, a band like Panic! At The Disco, and even Jack White. What he does is very clever.

A lot of the stuff Im like “Ive heard it before,” and then I stop and go “oh whats that?”

Alice then went on to claim a lot of the stuff he hears today sounds Anemic.

The star claimed he makes albums for his fans and not the money (Picture: WireImage)

He said: I wish there were more bands that had a little more balls, I listen to a lot of stuff and it sounds Anemic

Its as though theyre afraid to be rockstars. I think there needs to be more bands like The Strypes out there.

The star reflected on his own experience in the industry and acknowledge the fact there isnt a lot of money to be made in album sales any more.

He said: It is kind of funny about the whole record industry now, people like us who have been around for thirty albums or so are basically making albums for their fans.

I dont think theres many of us out there who are trying to make a new audience – its great if we do and do earn some new fans.

But were making records for people all over the world who have been Alice fans for a long time. So I just think they deserve more music, new albums, live albums all kinds of stuff like that.

And speaking of live albums, Alice is bringing out A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia Paris on 31 August.

He said: It was one of those nights where we didnt have to fix anything.

A lot of people think live albums are live albums, maybe 90 per cent are, but the rest of them you go in and you fix the bass there, you fix the drums there, you fix guitars there.

If you have a great live band you dont have to do any of those fixtures and we didnt have to do any of those fixtures at all – thats what a good live album to me should be.
