The 31-year-old angrily left the field of play in reaction to Pirates fans calling for his substitution after missing a slew of first-half chances.

Gabuza threw his jersey into the crowd and sarcastically clapped the Pirates fans who turned on their own player – who in recent times has become a target for abuse.

"In 25 years in coaching, it has never happened to me but in life never say never," Sredojevic told reporters. "In that regard I will not now again go over this, but it's a lesson and that lesson we will try to handle from in the best possible way."

A tense Sredojevic then encouraged fans to better understand how difficult sometimes it is to be a player and to support the team.

"We have the highest degree of respect towards our supporters, they're the spiritual owners of this team. Having that in mind and with the highest degree of respect I would like to inform them that it's not easy to be on this side."

"We are not supermen we are just human beings and a bit more patience and support to the team will be welcomed."
