Shoppers help Lions donate $20,000 to drought stricken farmers
With the help of the Augusta Margaret River community, the Margaret River Lions Club has donated a whopping $20,000 to farmers suffering under drought conditions around the country.
The Australian Lions Foundation's Drought Relief Appeal seeks to raise $500,000 in just one month with the support of more than 1200 Australian Lions Clubs.
Residents turned out in good numbers over the weekend to support the Margaret River Lions Club's Mega Garage Sale, the proceeds of which will be sent to the Australian Lions Foundation's (ALF) Drought Relief Appeal.
The appeal seeks to raise more than half a million dollars within just one month with the help of the Lions network of over 1200 clubs.
Margaret River Club President Dorothy Yeoman thanked the public for its ongoing support and added that the Club had decided to supplement the proceeds of the sale to make up a total $20,000 donated to the appeal.
"This is a great outcome for the Appeal and once again demonstrates the wonderful generosity of the Margaret River community," said Mrs Yeoman.
Funds raised by the ALF will be quickly distributed to local Lions Clubs in drought affected communities to help farming families in need.
Donations can be made through the Lions or the ALF www.alf.lions.org.au
