Yep even established actors get starstruck when they meet their heroes! Sean Mahon may have been in the game for some time but after joining EastEnders, he revealed that he couldnt even speak after ending up in a make-up chair near to Walford legend June Brown!

Red Rock star Sean is joining the show as Mel Owens ex husband Ray Kelly, a new villain for the show but while his character oozes charm, charisma and confidence, Sean was a little more reserved when he met the Dot Branning actress!

He explained: I had a bit of a fan moment the other day. I was sitting in the make-up chair next to June Brown who plays Dot Branning and she was one of my favourite characters on the show when I was watching so many years ago so I was a bit star-struck and gobsmacked. I didnt say a word I just kind of sat there and darted my eyes over a few times, so it was great.

Given that Ray is likely to butt heads with Jack Branning, theres every chance that he could be sharing scenes with June- although were not sure that Ray and Dot will become friends given that the newcomer is shaping up to be a baddie of sorts.

Describing his character, Sean went on: Prior to this I was always cast as the good guy, the doctor the lawyer but now theres certainly more darkness and complexity to the characters Im being offered. I dont think the apple falls far from the tree so certainly they are not a family who shy away from different measures to get what they want.

With this character the writers had a very specific temperament for him. He was described as very powerful, calm and cool in his own way so any actor who sees that wants to jump in and give their own interpretation to that. So I was excited really because it was an opportunity to really go to some places that would be a lot of fun. I think Ray is very used to managing situations and creating situations that work in his favour. So I think certainly with Jack or with anybody, if hes motivated to it he is able handle it without feeling a huge sense of threat.

And Sean is hopeful that fans respond well to his layered character and replied when asked if he thinks viewers are interested to see what Ray is like with: I think very much so because of his connection to Mel and Hunter who are such strong characters and so the fact they are bringing in somebody in from their past sets Ray up in a great way.

People are very curious to know – whats that all about? So Im not just hanging out on the side lines, the way its been written I get entrenched very quickly and I integrate with a lot of the characters on the Square very quickly so Im very much in the world.
